The City of Fremont has prioritized affordable housing as being critical to our community’s housing needs. On March 16, 2020, City inspection services were suspended to align with the Shelter in Place Order issued by the Alameda County Health Officer to help limit the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). The new Health Officer Order directing Alameda County residents to shelter at home clarified that affordable housing is considered essential and that such projects could move forward.
After review of the County Order (section 10c) and evaluating current critical infrastructure projects, to include affordable housing, the City will move forward with building inspections in support of the following projects, totaling 584 units, with over 500 of these units scheduled to be completed before the end of 2020:
- Warm Springs Village (Eden Housing): 132 units
- Innovia (St. Anton Communities): 290 units
- Geo (Fairfield Residential): 102 units
- City Center Apartments (Allied Housing): 60 units
Beginning Monday, March 23, 2020, Building Inspectors will implement safety protocols to help limit the spread of COVID-19, including but not limited to wearing gloves and using hand sanitizer where hand-washing facilities are limited; practicing social distancing protocols; limiting contact with surfaces at the inspection site; observing if anyone is exhibiting shortness of breath or persistent coughing, at which time the inspection would be halted and the inspector would leave the premises; and conducting inspections that have been scheduled and approved by the City’s management staff. Prior to the City resuming inspections on any of these projects, the contractor will provide the inspector with a description of the contractor’s plan for complying with recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) with respect to preventing transmission of COVID-19.
